Tribute to Chairman Richard Milanovich

A Tribute to Chairman Richard Milanovich

In the Land of the Shifting Sands

Peace and love to you old friend

You always stood proud and tall

Your commitment to Tribal preservation

Went far beyond the boundaries of the reservation

With humility & sincerity

You were a shining example

Of a great national leader

And the coyote still sings in the canyons

And the wind still sings in the warm desert land

And the stories and legends will still be told

As to the heavens we raise our hands

And the  warm healing mineral waters

Of The Agua Caliente Cahuilla band

Bring comfort to the weary traveler

To those who visit the land of the shifting sands

You raised your people from poverty

By teaching them a new way

But the old ways were never forgotten

Handed down by your forefathers from a distant day

Some called you a visionary

Who thought of casinos on Native land

It changed the landscape of our time

And brought new life to the land of the shifting sands

The Agua Caliente Band of  Cahuilla Indians were always a peaceful people

The desert and the mountains were their home

They were hunters and keepers of their environment

A belief that fostered an ecological ethic toward the land

In Cahuilla tradition each individual has a soul spirit

That can communicate from the land of the dead

And the Bird Singers still tell the stories

Of advice handed down to the living

From those who have passed so the story is said.

And the coyote still sings in the canyons

And the wind still sings in the warm desert land

And the stories and legends will still be told

As to the heavens we raise our hands

And the  warm healing mineral waters

Of The Agua Caliente Cahuilla band

Bring comfort to the weary traveler

To those who visit the land of the shifting sands

So Richard – when the council meets in the fall

Your advice would always be welcome

We’ll listen to your wisdom when you call

And the Cahuilla people will always remember

The time of prosperity in their land

And they will also always remember their leader

Who brought dignity and respect to the land of the shifting sands

I am hoping to include some of your comments or share your ideas in my presentations around the country not just on greening events but ALL the challenges we face in the special events industry and America as a whole. I will try to answer all your questions or at least point you to someone who is an expert in their field for their opinion.
